The Vocational and Technical Education Department, known as the VOTECH Department, is an amalgamation of four Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) areas, namely Home Economics, Visual Arts, Technical, and Agric Education.

The mission of the department is to provide quality vocational and technical education that enhances skills development, promotes lifelong learning, and equips student teachers with practical expertise to meet the demands of modern basic education in Ghana.

The VOTECH department, from its inception, is committed to empowering student teachers with the requisite knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to excel in today's dynamic educational sector. The department focuses on bridging the gap between theoretical learning and hands-on practical application and preparing student teachers for successful careers in education and entrepreneurship. By fostering creativity, innovation, critical thinking, and adaptability, the department contributes to sustainable development and economic progress by equipping student teachers with entrepreneurial skills and essential life skills necessary for adult life.

The department boasts of twelve (12) dedicated faculty members with various degree qualifications and specializations in technical and construction education, home economics, hospitality and fashion education, arts and culture education, and agricultural education. The department currently offers Bachelor of Education - JHS programs in Technical, Visual Arts, Agric/Home Economics, and Home Economics/Agric combinations for students.

Home Economics Unit

The Home Economics Unit offers the following courses

  • Application of theories and principles in clothing and textiles,
  • Application of theories and principles in food and nutrition,
  • Assessment techniques in home Economics,
  • Manipulative skills and processes in home economics,
  • Philosophical foundations of home economics,
  • Process and procedures in clothing and textiles,
  • Processes and procedures in food and nutrition,
  • Product development in home economics, and Enterprise management in home economics

The Agric Unit offers the following courses:
