The Management of the College initiated a partnership agreement with the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG). Dr. Felix Kumedzro, Principal of the College made a visit to UNCG and met with the leadership of the University for further engagements with regards to the partnership. A follow up visit was made by Dr. Morgan Chitiyo, the Dean, School of Education, University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) on Monday, 5th October, 2026. Dr. Morgan Chitiyo is a specialist in Special & Inclusive Education.

The aim of the meeting was among other things, to serve as an exploratory and strategic planning engagement aimed at strengthening the institutional partnership between Akatsi College of Education (AkatsiCoE) and the University of North Carolina, Greensboro (UNCG).

Present at the meeting were members of Management, Heads of Department and Heads of Unit (Non-teaching).

Dr. Morgan stated that this engagement aims at strengthening partnership arrangements between AkatsiCoE and UNCG for growth and academic opportunities for both institutions, establishing student and faculty exchange programs to build global perspectives and enhance research capabilities. This would create opportunities for graduate study, PhD progression and professional development for faculty and administrative staff and develop a structured, sustainable institutional roadmap for long-term milestones.

Discussions established that the Memorandum of Understanding for the partnership between both institutions was officially signed by the Chancellor of UNCG. Following the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor of UNCG’s approval and signature of the institutional MoU, the first cohort of students from UNCG's Department of Specialized Education Services was expected to visit AkatsiCoE in November 2027 for a study program. Senior representatives from UNCG are also expected to accompany the first cohort of students, further demonstrating the University’s commitment to the relationship. The visit will offer US students practical exposure to Ghana’s educational environment while fostering academic interaction and knowledge exchange between students and faculty from both institutions. AkatsiCoE students will also have reciprocal opportunities to visit UNCG as part of the partnership.

The meeting came to a successful end. The Principal of the College reaffirmed the College's commitment to sustaining and nurturing the relationship with UNCG in ensuring all agreed channels were actively pursued. The partnership between AkatsiCoE and UNCG was emphasized to directly align with College’s 5-year Strategic Plan Theme 4, on National and International Partnerships for Development to expand international linkages and modernize teacher education. Management, Heads of Department and key stakeholders were tasked to actively participate in drafting the finalized partnership roadmaps to ensure long-term measurable outcomes.
